What does this A B and C mean on my engine block?

When I was using our dry ice blaster a couple months back on it I noticed these. It would seem they were under the paint. Do they have a specific meaning?
Thanks much.

Given that it's not starting at a specific far end on either side of the block, I don't see that being an indicating of anything, really. Just my opinion - otherwise, a great looking block - I'm planning on having mine tanked and balanced then painted up something bright and shiny

I figured it was something like that.
The letters just kinda stuck out where they were and was wondering if they had a purpose.
Only 87K miles on it.
And then the PO put wrong spark plugs in it and plug #5 ate piston #5 and its top ring two weeks after I got it
Considering the other stuff he did wrong I should of checked them instead of relying on him telling us he put new plugs in.
But then I wouldn't be the owner of a boring bar, valve grinding equipment and a whole lotta engine overhauling tools.
