Great day wheeling yesterday and 1st serious trail repair... Center pins optional?
Came over 3 foot ledge into a mud hole (not this picture) and had a nasty front end clunk pulling out... Front DS had pulled out of the slip.. Over articulated? Never had before...
Closer inspection , driver side axle was 8" forward on the leaf... Center pin sheared and hitting the passenger side tire as I came down caused the driver side to torque forward.
Luckily it was at the end of the trails, last obstacle. Loosened the ubolts, ratcheted the axle back and snugged it up... Was able to get off the trail and drive 1.5 hrs home... Leaf stack is completely misaligned... New center pin and ubolts on order
Sparrows , would you be interested in franchising Exciled? I been looking for a good NC club. I have finally decided to do it myself.
love my jeep
Lol. Not so much at this time.
But if you're wanting to start your own club, I say do it! If you need any advise let me know! I had a big problem with my local clubs since they are mostly pretentious, high-horsed, exclusive, d-bags that were trying to keep the public trails a secret from all the non member wheelers in my area. I spent two years trying to join only to have them ignore me and a handful of my friends. So I gave them the finger and started Exiled Offroad...since we're the exiles from the established clubs lol.
Today I pulled the dana30 out of my donor frame. first time pulling an axle, wasnt too bad at all. harder to move around than I thought. also learned that unbolting the shackles first was a dumb move
Also for the last week I had been hearing a slight clunk up front on takeoffs and stops. Finally got under there and I noticed that i could see light between my springs and perches on both sides, about an 1/8" gap! not sure if maybe I had some shims or pads in there that fell out because all 8 nuts didnt just come loose they were still rusted in place. Tightened them all up and clunk is gone. seems like my front springs got some of their arch back too which is odd.
I bought a fiberglass windshield frame to replace my old swiss cheese rusted one. Also I put in a few hours repairing the frame at the steering box. Repainted the steering box with anti rust paint. I hate rust!!!
what do you think of the firbreglass? better or worse than steel? lighter?
