I never change the oil filter. That whole "it goes bad" thing is a myth.

Finally finished my oil pan gasket, timing chain gasket, and harmonic balancer seal change. After loosening the oil pan back up the timing chain cover went right into place buttoned everything up fired her up and had an oil leak by rear main. Dropped oil pan again the only place I didn't put rtv was by the rear main seal. Added rtv put back together no leaks so far. I was extremely nervous about doing it but finally said I can read a book and follow directions.

My son and I began the removal of his AX-5. We lost fith gear and have some grinding in a couple other gears. The goal is to have it compete before the weekend. Who knows what the clutch and flywheel will look like.

Get the whole rig if it's cheap enough. You will be surprised what you will need off of it.
You can sell the carcass to a scrap yard for extra $$ when you are done.
this is what I will be doing.
What transmission do you have? The BA10/5? The Cherokar will have either an auto or an AX15. The pilot bearing is different. Don't forget the speed sensor on the t-case, and the crank position sensor on the bell housing, and the o2 sensor, and the cat, and the smog stuff, and the computer, and harness, and motor mounts, and fuel line and return line, and fuel tank with electric pump and the evap line, and the electronic speedomoeter. I'm forgetting something.

hung the tail pipe with a universal hanger (OEM hanger was rusted out)... When you install all new exhaust including manifold, you might as well go the whole way...

I know people who swear oil never wears out it just needs to be cleaned . so they just add when needed and change the filter . as for me I run expensive Oil and snug the filter down because I am afraid it will come loose .

this is not true entirely. they don't go bad but after time they do lose their ability to filter. when the differential pressure b/n the 2 sides of the filter gets to a certain point there is what is called a "bypass" inside that opens up. in essence the filter is no longer filtering your oil, or only a very small amount of your oil gets through the filter medium.
