Cut off the passenger rear upper shock mount (perch). it was rusty, and so was the frame, so I had to cut out a notch from the frame and I will work on getting the new piece of frame welded in, and then manufacture a new upper shock mount.
That sucks man, I had considered their tires for this build but decided to go with a pair of Goodyears from Discount, a company I've had GREAT customer service from. After your experience, Im glad I did. I won't buy a set of tires from anywhere else even though they have no local stores here.
Come on by! It's easy to network locally when you join a 4x4 club especially when all the clubs in your state are united and invited to each other's runs. You meet poor folk like me or run into guys that own some of the big companies you only aspire to order from and drool when you see their products. The great uniting factor is that we are all jeepers at heart and are willing to help each other out even if its just a little. That's what the jeep wave is all about: community. The wave is the tip of the iceberg.
Luck Favours The Prepared
Roof (what's left of it) is off and cleaned. Jeep is under a tarp so now just waiting for the speedy stitcher and some black waxed nylon thread
Hoping to at least fix the seams so I can continue to run it like a safari top. If all goes well i'll put new window zippers in and have a decent top. If not... It's a learning experience and I'll shell out the cash for a new roof if I need to
I always get people coming over and saying things like "I wish I knew how to do that," etc- but they don't realize- at some point I didn't know how to do it either- I had to figure it out.
Worked some more on the 8.8 swap. It's going slow. One of the RuffStuff U-bolts had the threads cut wrong on one side and fought with it for a couple hours before giving in a buying a parts store special just to continue on. After I got that sorted, I accidentally dropped one of my ujoint caps and spilled all the needle bearings out. Had to waste even more time cleaning them all and re packing them into the cap. :/
Not the best day of work and I'm still not done. It would be nice if my friends actually helped when they said they would. Been flying alone on this for the past two days and it's a PITA and slow going.
Hopefully I'll have it wrapped up tomorrow. Not having my rig to drive sucks!
Oh and to top it off I found out my daughter broker her arm last night. Her and her mother were out of town visiting her grandparents and she fell and broke her wrist. Crummy day today
