I've got an NP231C laying around. No idea what to do with it. It's even still attached to the 4L60-E.

If you can find a 231 amc.
Same as the J it just have a planetary gearset with holes drilled for six planetaries with 3 installed and three empty spaces.
Find another 231 with planetaries that have the same teeth angle and harvest them out of it and voila, you've got a six planetary gearset.

Just out of curiosity, what are you guys talking about?

You can add gears to the NP231 to make it stronger?

thats some good info, i may do that except i need a new planetary set anyway because mine is just shot. but if i get a new amc case and the 231C then i'll have 2 cages for gears which will give me the set and the wide chain from the C

do you know the chain width of the amc case?

the planetary gears for the np231 are somewhat weak since there are only 3 gears transferring torque, when you bump it up to a planetary set with 6 gears you essentially double your torque transfer potential

Chain was the same as the 91 231 I used for parts.
The gears in later 231 planetaries are cut differently, I don't know when they changed though.
On my phone so I can't access photobucket but I have a picture of the planetary case in my crappy build thread linked in my siggy I believe.
Should be the third post.
For whatever reason I never took a picture of the finished thing though.

Is this an easy upgrade? I thought the NP231C was weaker than the NP231J because it used a smaller chain. That and it uses a different output shaft.

Garage
Fixed my rear end vibration issue with a new spicer u-joint, and discovered my t-case had no fluid in it In went a quart of ATF for now, at least until I can fix the rear seal, which appears to be my leaking point judging by all of the gunk sprayed about in that general area. It shifts into 4wd a lot smoother now

All about that unibody life.

just to be clear I'm following this and had a similar conversation at a machine shop a few days ago. That being said I've got nothing of use to add. And it took me a minute to figure out I actualy knew what was going on.

On topic my LED light mount came in today, and I heard my check should be in friday... at least in theory.....

Off topic: how most of the forum feels. http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3svz0j/

I don't know diddly squat about transfer cases (how they work), but I know which ones are good on Jeeps.

Tomorrow I am planning on getting the new air tank mounted, the brakes bled, and the Jeep ready for some four-wheeling next week. Obviously it still doesn't run, but I want to be as ready as I can so I can get out there and see if it flexes a lot better now.
