Drove to philly to pick up a new AX15. Got home and started taking the tailhousing off to reclock it (its from a cherokee). As I'm struggling to get it apart, I realize it's slightly different than Max's write up that I'm following. On a wild hunch I googled pictures of a NV3550. Turns out it was a NV3550 after all. Good thing is it'll bolt right up, all I have to do is reclock the rear flange. Same quality or slightly better than the AX15, so I'm happy, and the price was right. Just got the tailhousing off a few minutes ago, gears look in good shape, supposably it only had 80k on it. Came with the bellhousing and all the external slave stuff, so I'll get that switched over too. Once I get it swapped in, hopefully the next couple days, I promised my girlfriend I'd teach her manual. Should be interesting
Installed the fuel pump and connected the map sensor and vss(thanks to Timatoe) and fuel lines. Started putting the power steering pump back on and realized that both belts I have are to long now. Me thinks the bracket for the auto fi 4.2(still in jeep) is longer than the bracket for my standard carbed jeep that the current bracket is from. Didn't measure though. Tonight I'm going to weld the muffler. I wish the jeep was at my house. It'd be done by midnight I think.
Still need to flush the fuel line, install the tcase and exhaust. I also need to but in the fan and radiator and starter and computer after I jumper the nss. Just when I think I'm close I find more to do.
Adopt your pets. Don't shop for them.
I've had a rattling/grinding sound when in 4th/5th at highway speeds, only when I am at partial throttle. My AX5 blew up so I replaced it, and the sound was still there. Today, I replaced the rear u-joints (the front shaft doesn't turn in 2-Hi if I understand right so no need to replace those now), and the sound is still there. Not sure where to look next. I also took a couple of key blanks to the dealer and they cut them for free, and I hid one on the Jeep in case I lose the main key. Oil change is coming tomorrow.
