I have the opportunity to trade a Remington 30.06 for a Renix 4.0 system (engine and manifold), I'd be moving up from a 2.5l. Looking for suggestions, good deal or no? Good engine or no? Any common issues with a Renix motor?

Finished wiring my welder in last night at 12:30am. This morning, RAN MY FIRST BEAD!!! Quite excited, now I can make all sorts of awesome crap. Tomorrow having a friend come over and we're going to put my rear crossmember on and my bumper on after that.
Does anyone know the length/size of stock rear shocks? Here's my deal. I bought the Jeep, the PO had lifted it with what I think is an RC 4" lift plus 1" of shackle lift (2" longer but because of angle its 1" la la you know the deal). He already had shocks in there of course, and they worked fine until I blew my D35 and switched to the 8.8. Now, he had also relocated the shocks so that they mounted up higher, and there is no room for the shock relocater brackets like everyone uses. Also, the shocks were mounted to the spring plates, not to the axle tube. Now when I switched to the 8.8 I mounted the shocks on the tube, roughly flush with the bottom of the tube. This caused the shocks to compress a good 4" and now they have practically no travel. It's fine for road driving but I'm going off road this weekend and I don't want to rip my brackets off. So I need a set of shocks that will fit. I'm figuring that if it's 5" of lift plus about 1" of height from changing the shock location, he probably got 6" longer shocks. When I put the 8.8 in I moved the mount up, and lost about 4-5" of travel, so I figure I need roughly stock length shocks.

Flex it out without the shocks on and measure. There is no deductive reasoning method for guessing shock length.

Thanks guys. I'll want to leave the shocks on for the 2 hr trip on the highway down there and then take them off before going out right? I did some measuring before but it was tough with a jack and stuff so I'm gonna disconnect the shocks and find a ramp somewhere to flex it out. It's just tough to decide because this RC lift is coming off this summer and then I'm gonna need new rear shocks anyways cause I'll have a different flex amount, so I can't hardly justify spending much money on shocks that will be used for 2 months.

If you're throwing on a new lift later, you might as well just disconnect the shocks offroad. And by disconnect, take them completely off and find a warm, fuzzy spot in the jeep for them to reside so they don't get bent or broken by dangling from the jeep.

i busted both shock mounts off same day, passenger up top and driver off the axle. some CRAPPY welds from PO. but i run no shocks for now drive 20 miles or so to work everyday at 65-70 mph. just a bit bouncy is all till i weld new mounts dont worry bout em

i put new windshield wipers on last night since mine were falling apart and what a difference it made. also, its amazing what cleaning up the dash once a year does. its been a couple days and i still feel like its not my jeep..everything is bright and clean.
think i might change that after work today
