Well it's not pretty, but it sure has character (new dash now with autometrs)

so, since i installed a JB sye, i needed to switch from a mechanical speedometer to an electric one. i looked around and found that to replace that one gauge was going to be around $115. so i thought for a while and decided to just junk yard a gauge cluster from a 97+ cherokee and make a flat dash.

At first i was planning on making it look really good, but after i got started i decided that i liked it better looking crappy.

Anyway, here are some pics.

I'm not sure if i want to paint it or just give it some clear to keep that nice "just finished" look. All it still needs is a headlight switch which i'm going to get from an xj. I prefer the pull knob type.

Cost break down:

sheet metal - $25
pipe - Scrounged
plastic - Scrounged
3/8" rod - Scrounged
gauges - $50
hinges - $2.50
magnets - $4
Mag light mount - $6
Mag light - $19
Cam Lock - $5
head light switch - yet to be bought

total cost so far - $113.50

that is some of the most wack stuff I have ever seen. I really like the bugger weld oh sh*t on the grab bar. Are you going to keep going with the theme on the rest of the jeep?

i think i will for the interior. I'd like to keep the outside looking semi normal. My friend called it "Mad Maxian", and we all know that Mad Max was a quality film, so i took it as a compliment.

Don't paint it and let it get rusty, then it'll be really cool.

Thanks,

The glove box edges are actually pretty smooth. the plasma cutter wasn't cutting as well as it could have so the edges melted a little bit.

The door pockets are stock. they came with the doors and I'm pretty sure the doors are from a sahara.

The glove box door looks to be pretty heavy. Are those magnets strong enought to keep the door from opening onto somebody's knees. It looks pretty .........hmmmmmm.... ruff. Looks nice. I'd clear coat it.

Well...at least you don't have to worry about anyone stealing your Jeep.

That being said that probably took a lot of work...good for you for being able to do it.
