Well life has interfeered with my build!

As is common for me life has gotten in the way of my plans and stolen my build money. So I have an 88 Cherokee with a 4.0l in it. I it runs well and I own it. I have an NP435 and an NP205 out of a 78 Ford F250. The trans needs a rebuild and is missing the front bearing retainer. The Cherokee had that Pugout P.O.S. I know I didn't spell it right, oh well. What do you think? I would still have the D30 and D35 until I could find someone to work with for a set of Waggy axles. If any one wants a D60 form that previously mentioned Ford let me know please.
The Cherokee was retired because of electrical issues and we got a 03 Dodge Durango. So back to the idea of putting the 88 4.0 into the 89 YJ. What do you think. As stated I can not get a different engine so it wont happen. Can anybody shed light on the wiring I will face as well as mechanical issues I may face.

Thanks all

Oh I forgot has anyone done a rebuild on an NP435? It will be my first venture inside of a tranny. I could use some pointers. Thanks.

I will take the D60 please!

Thank you!

I didn't say that I was giving it away. I can't blame a guy for trying though.

Anybody now what to look for as a doner for an 8.8 with limited slip? I am some what thinking of using one instead of a D44. A matched set of waggies would be preferred however at this point I would take what I can get my hands on. I have a Lock-Right in my D30 and am running 31s so I would be ok with the 8.8.

the 8.8 will be perfect... its stronger than the D44 anyhow...

You want a Ford Explorer, usually the Eddie Bauers or Sports...or Moutaineers

Specs:
Code Capacity Ratio
43 Open 3200 3.08
41 Open 3200 3.27
42 Open 4.10
46 Open 3.73
45 Open 3200 3.55
D4 Limited Slip 3200 3.73
D2 Limited Slip 4.10
L73 Limited Slip 3.73
L - Limited Slip Differential
C - Conventional Differential

To get rear disc brakes and 31-spline axle, you need to look for a 1995 to 2001 Explorer or Mountaineer

Okay I have some cash to throw at the YJ finally! I need t find a rear axle. I was thinking about an 8.8 with lsd, discs, 4.10s. I have also been hearing that there are some Toyota axles that make good swaps and they have a third member like a Ford 9". So I am looking for info, and opinions as well as the actual axle of course. If you have one or know where one is I would like to know. Keeping in mind that I am in N. Ca. I have been talking to the recyclers around Sac, San Jose, S.F. Redding ect, ect. I have found some 8.8s and then that's when i started thinking about the Toyota's. I have maybe as high as $350 but I have a D60 to trade as well. Recyclers don't want to do that so again if you know someone....

what part of NC are you in. I was looking in charlotte area and there are a few part outs on craigslist. Not sure if they have what your looking for but maybe they will part with what your looking for cheap. I paid $50 bucks for a 99 with 4.10's and a LS.. got the ujoint piece for the front too and they left the e-brake cables attached and didnt cut them which was a bonus

Thanks every one. You helped me find my axle, that is if I can get there before all the other vultures. With some of the best wheeling in the country within four to six hours of here these kinda parts don't last long. It is an 8.8 "D2" out of an '01, and it has 4.10 gears to match my D30. Score!

Well I got it. I don't know how to positively ID that it is correct without opening up the diff. So tomorrow that is what I will do. I will get pics and start posting them to my thread so those that are interested can fallow. Thanks to all who have helped me to get here. It has been a LONG time getting to this point. I got the YJ totally stock in 04 it had a hard top and full doors as well as a bikini topand the springs were sagging. So not to long after I got it I put a 2.5" BDS suspension under it and then a year latter it got new 31" rubber. Well it only took one year of the top going on and off before the wife and I realized it was way too heavy for us to continue doing that. We do not have a garage, therefor we couldn't get a hoist. We have both had back surgery and really couldn't do the hard top bit so we got a Best Top Supertop with the full fabric doors. Selling the top and doors got me a set of 1.5" grease-able shackles, new Rancho RS 7000 shocks and a Viair Dual compressor setup with 2gal tank. About a year latter I was able to get a Lock Right for the front, 4x4 Posi-Lock cable shift for the front axle and a set of Delta fog lights. I have also built a rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier and cargo basket. I have gathered a small supply of recovery gear, D ring shackles, tow chains and a yank strap. Yep I know very slow build. Keep in mind that I am on Veterans disability and they don't pay much. Well I, through rehab and stubbornness, have been able to get six cords of firewood cut and sold over the last year. So I had some money to get an axle to replace the turd that Jeep put in. I am hoping that with a few hours of work a day I can get it switched out in time for a run that some local and not so local members are doing the 16th of Feb. Woo whoo the fun begins! I finally get to start a build thread.
