Weird

Since i've (finally) had my YJ parking brake recall done last week, if i disconnect the wire to the brake (the dash light doesn't work anyway), i get a random short that kills the engine and pegs the fuel gauge...

Leave it connected = no problem. ?

Did it do that before they did the recall work? Sounds like a pinched wire or something to that effect. Electrical is not my stronghold though. Good luck and post you findings, I'd start looking around anything they would have taken off or moved to do the recall work.

pretty sure the fuel pump is grounded to the parking brake. might check that.

Do everything with a positive attitude, it won't always work but you'll piss enough people off to make it worthwhile.

the voices aren't real but they sure have good ideas.

There are several ground wires that all meet at the parking brake mount. A common problem

If the dealership did the recall work I'd ask them to fix the problem (if it's free).

This wire is the fuel pump ground on these model year rigs. Yes, that's right, they grounded the fuel pump at the parking brake assembly bracket. When I had my parking brake recall done, I even fore warned the dealership and had them write in the notes of the service order that they need to be sure they reattached this wire or she won't start. Some 4hrs later I called them asking what the delay was, and was told that it won't run after the work was performed. I asked them to read back to me the notes on the service order and told them I would be down to pick it up. Stupid dealership.
