voltage regulator ??
Is the voltage regulator seperate on the wranglers or is it built into the alternator. All of a sudden my charge gauge is shooting way up. When I do a parts search I turn up no voltage regulator, which would be way easier and cheaper to change.

That's what I was afraid of
I thought since my wrangler was older it would be seperate.

It uses an internal regulator. It can be replaced but it is usually easier/more practical to just pick up a rebuilt alternator.
