when an engine is running,by-products of combustion get past the piston rings and end up in the cankcase.
these by-products(moisture,dirt,unburnt fuel, carbon, etc)are the main contaminents that get into the oil.
the PCV(positive crankcase ventilation)removes these by-products before they contaminate the oil.
this greatly increases the oil change intervals and reduces wear in the engine by keeping the oil cleaner longer.
removing the pcv is detrimental to your engine and has absolutely NO benefits.

A few basic reasons for Crankcase Ventilation:

The gases that get past the rings can pressurize the crankcase, causing oil leaks all over the engine.

As pistons move up & down in their bores, the volume of the crankcase changes, which can also cause pressurization.

It can actually reduce engine performance to not have a vented crankcase.

Venting the crankcase to the intake reduces these gases from the atmosphere, and actually helps keep the engine clean.
