Upgrading to 33"s Questions!

Im thinking about upgrading my YJ to run 33/12.50/R15 Goodyear Wranglers. Im getting a 2.5 rough country. Can I run the 33s on just the 2.5 for a little bit until I get a body lift or bigger shackles? Also should I do a body lift or shackles? And is there anything extra I need to get when getting these size tires? Brakes, Speedometer, Gears, etc? And do I REALLY need it? Thanks guys!

I think everyone's jeep is a little different and your backspacing comes into play a little bit also.

I was running 33 12.50's on mine with nothing more than BSERK's shackles, and there's no way they're more than 2.5" oversized. I had zero rub and zero issues, and I was running Road Venture M/T's with an aggressive tread.

Now I had ZERO flex at all, so I doubt it left me any off-road capability, but they didn't rub.

I wouldn't do it.

Any particular reason?

2 1/2 lift is not enough for 33s, if you plan on flexing it at all.

33s, 2 1/2 lift, 1" body lift, 5/8 shackles and TJ flares.

Same set up, stuffing the tires and bending the front fenders.

The rough country lifts suck, trust me I had one and it rode rough. Also the lift tends to sag.

Also I ran 33s with 5.5" of lift, so don't do it with 2.5" of lift.

Pretty much everything they said. Rough ride. Bad articulation. Not enough clearance.

Anything that I could add to the 2.5 to run the 33s?

Anticanman 06-22-2013 09:06 PM

The OME 36r 2.5" springs are closer to 3" and if you add a 1" body lift and some TJ flares it should work out with the proper bumpstops.

Could I get by with the RC 2.5 shocks?

Anticanman 06-22-2013 09:15 PM

Why would you want to? The old man emu shocks are comparable to clouds.

LOLLERSKATES. My buddy runs a rough country lift with a body lift and 33's. He doesn't rub but the ride will knock fillings out and I can't really comment on flex. I cannot recommend you buy the RC 2.5" lift based on his jeep, even if you we're going to add a BL. It would still ride like a washing machine on spin cycle with a bowling ball in it.

I've heard nothing but good things about OME components but they tend to be more expensive than RC.

Well I'm only 16 and have no money. The RC lift was a birthday gift from my parents so I can't complain. And there's a local guy wanting to trade my 31s for 33s.

Anticanman 06-22-2013 09:47 PM

Oh. I see.

Perhaps you would like to try the body lift.
