Universal Joint Failure

I have a '95 Wrangler 4.0, 5 spd.
It has 16 inch, the tires are P255 65R16.
The speedometer is accurate so the gearing has been changed.
At any rate we have gone through 3 universals in 4 yrs.
It gets driven about 9,000 miles /yr. Very little 4WD, no off road to speak of.
After all of this, what should I be looking for?

Thanks for all of the help on my previous request. Am looking into it as we speak. Had a lightning hit on the pole outside the house. One computer, printer, cordless phone DSL only took 3 wks to get it up and running..

Thanks,

Jim W

What do you mean it has 16 inch?
Not sure, but I would consider the pinion angles (or the angle of the Driveshaft in question).
Also it could be an unbalanced driveshaft.
I would maybe take it in to a shop that makes/specializes in DS and have them take a look at it.

22 deg angle is real good for pinion angle, 30 degrees not so good

16 Inch Rims
I'll get pix and take some measurements as soon as I get it back.
I asked the mechanic, he said they go bad frequently. I have a '95 Sahara with about the same mileage 70K or so, it has an auto, but I've never had a problem with its drivetrain.

Thanks,

Jim W

Yeah same here, I have a 95 manual though, and I bought it off a friend I knew growing up and we did all the work on it together and we have never changed a ujoint yet. So no, that mechanic is an idiot and you should be going to someone else.

The 95's used a larger ujoint on the axle end of the rear drive shaft then the front. There is something not right with the pinion yoke used so they eat ujoints. I was going through about 1 a year. This is a common and known issue.
