Transmission noise

I have a 1987 6cyl, 5spd, wrangler. I have noticed since I purchased this vehicle that it has a "wearing" type sound that is quite prevelent in nuetral when you let the clutch out. It almost sounds like unlubed gearing. Yesterday when I pulled out of my yard I heard a "snapping" noise and now I have a loud "rattling" noise coming from the trani area. Shifts OK in all gears but something has definately let go. Any suggestions?? Throw-out bearing?? Transfer case chain slip??

2" suspension lift
2" body lift
Transfer case lowered
32" BFG MT's
Ramsey 6000 winch
and lots of other minor stuff that adds up to a lot of $$$$$ and bloody knuckles. I think you all know what I'm talking about!

The initial sound would have been the throwout bearing. I don't know what let go after that, but I'd get it into a shop before more damage$ occur

definetly have a shop listen to it. The same happened to my 88 4cyl. First the wearing noise in fifth, then in reverse it would buck. Finally this loud "clunk" then "wearing" noise in all gears. I'm putting a rebuilt ax-5 in now to the cost of $950.00
