Transmission grind when engaged downhill

Alright here we go...

95' 6cyl 4.0l - 166k ( please hold applause)

have been having some problems with clutch, so i replaced both master/slave cylinders and everything was good until...

driving home, having trouble downshifting to 2nd to slow me down, just won't go into gear, feel it grinding.

now i am noticing that when the transmission is slowing me down ( downhill - mostly 2nd and REALLy 1st gear) it will grind grind grind.... feel it on the clutch pedal and in the shifter.

getting into gears isn't that great, sometimes have to double clutch, but usually no problem.

couldn't get T-case open to check fluid, but tranny was greay and gross.. drained as best as i could, and filled it with lucas additive, ( i know) and didn't change a thing

before i do anything crazy like take it to a shop, what should i be looking for ?

anything else i should do before i get it rebuilt? and when i ask for quotes, what should i be asking quotes for?

thanks for the help guys!

Jeepers, keep waving! ( even in Hawaii)
