Transfer case problems
I went to install a new chain in my 231 and dicovered some problems. When I first spilt the case a piece of metal came out. There was actually lots of metal in there most of it was stuck in the filter looking thing that looks like it transfers oil. Turns out the top of the shift fork was worn into a sharp point and the metal in the case was from it. The question I have is should I replace the whole case or just the shift fork? The fork looks to be all that is wrong with the case but I hate to drop another $100 in it if it is just going to do this again. Another question is when ordering a shift fork from quadratec does it come with pads or do I have to order them too?
Thanks!

glad i'm not the only one
when i took my case apart..my fork looked exactly the same..i think i even took pics..i don't know when ordering..i bought mine localy..but the fork came with pads..as long as it is open, i bought a re-build kit that came with new bearings and seals and pads for both forks..i re-built mine complete for a little over four hundred dollars..if you buy one used..ya don't know what your getting (but you could get lucky) a re-man was 700 and new they're 1200+ i also bought a spring clip eliminator for the rear out put shaft..the spring clip is notorius for breaking and letting the shaft move around...probably causing your fork to jump..i had a bit of extra cost..because i had to buy a new rear alum extension piece too..and an extra 150 for a new drive shaft and slip yoke (i had one made longer) a bit cheaper than a sye but might be something to consider..!good luck!~fly
