So are drop-transfer-case kits to help with driveline angles in the back, and NOT to give more clearance for the front driveshaft?

I will probably notch my cross-member for a beefier front shaft just to be safe.

Drive shaft guy

I had a long talk with a driveline shop and apparently they were not surprised at all that a front stock jeep drive shaft failed like this. It is relatively long and quite fragile. So let this be a lesson to you other people considering limping home on a freeway. If you have big tires and a I6, maybe replace that wimpy little stock shaft and save yourself the $2000 I just spent on parts.
