i just looked at the picture again, i see your front passenger leaf spring is bent. im guessing that the impact that caused that bend likely caused this break.

I believe that you can swap a 242J in place of a 231 if you have the AX15 which I believe you have.

I don't believe this is desireable and would result in linkage, vaccum disconnect, length and output yoke issues.

I just recently picked up an XJ case to put into my 95 YJ and noticed that the input shaft from the XJ case is shorter than my original T-Case, this resulted in a leak as the trans rear seal is one without boot. I am hoping that by putting in a NAPA part number 14982 Seal with boot will save me from having to rip two cases apart.
Just thought I'd mention it since it's relevent.

I was doing pretty good..but pretty much slammed into a brickwall made of mud and clay...about 10-inches of water, and another 7-8inches from the top of the water to the top of the pit...and the rut was a flat face...so...snap goes the tcase...

ok, so I swapped out the tcases, and everything went fine...
only thing is...I couldn't re-connect my front-drive shaft because, of I'm guessing the articulation and the shocks being maxed out...it's too long...
and being my skid-plate has the cross-member intergrated into it...it's still a little long...
so I'm doing a complete back-break rebuild sometime this week, and plan on getting that shaft back up in place...

guys thanks for all the help so far...I really appreciate it.

Most of believe that you have critical damage to your front leaf spring which resulted in this trasnfer cage damage.

My suggestion is that you post pictures of your front leaf spring and even shackle angle. I suspect that you need to replace your front spring's main leaf at minimum. This would get your axle back in normal position allowing your front driveshaft to be installed and get your steering back to normal. (I assume your jeep isn't tracking correctly.)

yep thats what broke your case then. if at any point in the suspension travel your shaft is fully collapsed it will likely kill your case. need to fix those bent springs.
