I have a t-18 in my 90. That is the 4.2 but I believe it is the same setup when mating to a tranny. The only major issue is the bell housing. I got a setup to mate from Parts Mike. I believe the part is from Adavanced Adapters. Sorry, I don't know the part number and the catalog doesn't give one that will work. Parts Mike could help you find what would fit. With the Granny 1st at 6.32, 4.3 t-case, and 4.10 (soon) r/p I will be crawling at 111 to 1. I really like the t-18. A bit limited on the highway but a nice range of gears when off road. Fairly easy to tear apart and a strong transmission. Oh, it also has an external slave which is definetly a plus.

I did a NV4500 behind a stock 4.2 mated to a NP231 w/sye. No problems at all. New bellhousing and everything fits---- w/1 inch body lift to allow for larger tranny.

Well right now i have the ax-15 for a tranny and am not impressed when i bought the jeep it had tranny problems no 2nd and 5th gear so i put in a rebuilt worked fine for about 6 months and now it won't go into first makes noise in neutral (grinding) and reverse has bit the big one. I am aware the 435 and t-18 are 4 speeds but that doesn't bother me i don't drive on the highway much maybe 2 times a year and live like 15 min from my work so the lower gearing will not bother me there either. Just looking for info on swapping in these and feedback about them. Thanks for the feedback

I have a t-18 behind a 350 now but before that I had it on my 258. swap was easy I used a t-18 out of a 79 f-250 2wd, a cj bellhousing and the AA transfer case kit. pretty easy. The hardest part is taking apart the tranny to put the new output shaft-in While I was at it I replaced all the bearings.

The Bell housing was off a CJ with a t-150 tranny. It has the brackets for the slave cylinder and bolts right up to the ford tranny.

The only problem you will have is you will need to rig up a crank shaft position sensor.

did you have to leanthen and shorten your drive shafts when you did this I'm thinking you must have too because the trannys are much shorter than the ax-15.. What problems did you run into with the install?

Yeah, do your research now and round up the right parts. I did the T18 a few years ago behind my 4.0 HO. But I used the 4:1 first gear, with full intentions on finding the 6:32 version. Im now going to the NP435 they are more plentiful and a better gear. Check this out too.

Good luck, Doug
