tranny skid/crossmember

I swapped my skidplate out with a new one but in the process I broke 3 of the 6 bolt inserts inside the frame... its held up by one bolt on driver side and two on passenger side. Is there anyway to bolt up the others without cutting into the frame?

NHfireYJ 09-07-2013 05:24 PM

Nope... You could weld the skid to the frame... I did it temporarily until I could repair them right. You might be able to heat them and easy out the broken bolts, but they will probably spin, which means replacing the nutserts and new bolts

Tyler980 09-07-2013 05:31 PM

Well that's what I mean by what I broke. The nutserts broke... one I pulled out through the frame. The other I took a sawzall to lol

Tyler980 09-07-2013 05:32 PM

And one was missing when I bought jeep they had it slightly welded in that corner.

NHfireYJ 09-07-2013 05:34 PM

Many have used theses... http://www.mcmaster.com/#weld-nuts/=oer4en but you need to weld it all up again and cut out the rotted steel..

Tyler980 09-07-2013 05:35 PM

That's my problem... no welder and no welding skill :p

I'm not. I've been wondering if anyone from around here was on this forum :p. Well maybe after I get the jeep to stop ill see about getting it to someone.

Is it safe to say I should drive it around with lack of bolts on skid?

I wouldn't w only 3...

Tyler980 09-07-2013 05:53 PM

Would one of them like 120v welders be enough to weld it up a bit on each corner or something?

NHfireYJ 09-07-2013 05:59 PM

Yup.

Tyler980 09-07-2013 06:03 PM

Maybe I will invest and teach myself :p. learned all my other wrenching abilities on this jeep.

NHfireYJ 09-07-2013 06:05 PM

Not a bad way to go. I have a Lincoln 120V and did all my frame repair, and fabbed tire carrier etc... along with a crap load of other projects

Tyler980 09-07-2013 06:11 PM

Yeah my rear end of the frame is pretty rough. Maybe ill do that.
