tranny mounts

What is the easiest way to check my transmision mounts to see if that is the reason for the dull thud when I depress or release the clutch while in any gear at any speed? It is really starting to get on my nerves. It doesn't happen when it is out of gear though or when I really ease the clutch in or out. The U-joints seem to be alright I did them just a few months ago. Is it possible it could be the output shaft, if so how do I check it?
Thanks in advance.

The dull thud seems to be coming from between the driver and passenger and just ahead slightly (if that made any sense). I'll be sure to check the motor mounts, um, how do I do that?

on jeeps. the motor mounts are crap from the factory, best to just replace them altogether, either with new ones from autozone or bombproof ones from a performance shop.

i'm gettin a set of the 1" lift ones from MORE here shortly.

I just ordered a engine/transmission mount kit from quadratec for just under $50. The dealer wanted $40 for just one engine mount!
