Tranny HELP!!!

OK, here we go, bear with me. I have a 94 sahara, with a 6 cly. and the AX-15 5 spd tranny. I have just bought the jeep about one and a half months ago with around 90,000 miles on it. The jeep runs great and used to have a real smooth transmission, untill about a week ago. It was stock untill i bought it, and the only thing i did was install a 3" Rough Country Lift with the transfer case 1.5 inch drop bracket. I did this about 3 weeks ago, and I felt the jeep drove better then stock. But, here is the problem, when downshifting from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd, it grinds like hell. Also, sometimes it won't even go into 3rd. I brought it to a tranny guy and he said it sounds like the syncro gears.@#@@?? He also said that a new tranny installed would be around 2 grand. Any opinions?? Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, the tranny fluid was thin and light brown, but i changed it(I know, water and oil) and the clutch is fine.?? What gives. Thanks.

They recommend that you should trim the sheetmetal back around the stick shifter. I had mine heated and rebent to accommadate that issue with the same lift that u installed. I still have trouble getting into some gears after some city driving, and I think that It could be the syncros as well. 2 grand seems a lil high.

I took both boots off the shifter and there was plenty of clearance for both the stick and the transfer case shifter. I also took the shifter off the transmission and the seals where fine. 2 grand was for a new tranny and the install. Oh boy. Thanks.
