Trac bars GONE!!
I removed both my trac bars this morning after reading how much of a difference it was supposed to be.....and MAN!!..what a difference!..rides like a different vehicle now and flexes like it should.
While doing it i noticed the rear trac bar bracket on the axle was cracked anyhow,i removed the frame connection first,,then went to loosin the axle connection and it broke off at the bracket where it was cracked..so that saved me a few minutes anyhow..lol Mopar engineers must have been getting paid by the pound when they added the trac bars, theyre useless. I took it on a long ride today on the highway and in town and it still handles well even after taking some sharp turns on purpose just to see if she swayed or leaned any..NONE noticable, wish i'da done this long ago. Now i see a front sway bar quick disconnect in the VERY near future and a front locker for the muddin days coming soon in spring I know most know this trick already but had to vent on how happy i am with it.. ![]()

Now remove the sway bar & take it for a test drive.
I'll bet you'll save yourself the cost & hassle of the disconnects after you do. I haven't had track or sway bars in years! Congratulations! ![]()

I joined the no track, no sway bar club about two months ago, never looking back!

I have to agree with the "paid by the pound" theory. on coils... yes.. but on leafs.... come on. PO took them off before I bought it.

I took my sway bar off about 14 years ago and haven't regreted it. On the YJ the sway bar has virtually no spring so it is very restrictive. That's partially why the YJ had such a bad rep in the beginning for dismal offroad performance. I just recently took off the track bars and again, no handling problems. One problem that did arise is the front caster was to steep after the 5in lift which made for a scary drive over 30mph. I put in some shims to relax the steering angle and it has never handled better even with all the mods. Good luck!

Your thread just illustrates a real time example of how well it works. I haven't done this yet, and I constantly complain about my add a leaf suspension being too rough.. I think I should do it.

Ditching the sway and track bars brought on a whole new aspect of wheeling in my Jeep.

It's funny how all my CJ owning buddies never mentioned that the swaybar would hinder the off road performance. They just loved to watch the new guy with the YJ struggle.

Ha ha, man I sure struggle with mine! Every time I would hit the trail I would end up stuck with 2 tires off the ground 1 in the front and one in the opposite corner. Articulation is a good thing.

I've been a chicken, but I'm going out to the barn and pulling the track bars off now, I think I'll leave the sway bars and the lift kit I want comes with discos. i have been driving my jeep everywhere, it get better milage the my 4x4 duramax, and a buck a gallon cheaper fuel to boot!!! so the sway stays for now

Is it ok to remove the track bars on a TJ or is this just YJ?

Just YJs and CJs, as they have leaf springs. Coil suspension vehicles need trackbars, or another form of axle-locating brackets (like a triangulated a-arm or similar).
