Trac Bars

I recently heard from a friend that there is no need for my rear track bar and possibly my front trac bar. I was just wandering how the ride will be if i chose to take either trac bar off. Will i notice any difference for better or for the worse?

Any advice is helpful

Take the back off but make a disconect for the front. you will need the front for street driving.

UPnOVER, Have you actually taken yours off and drove it down the road to see what its like without it?

I drive on the road everyday with my sway bars disconnected and no track bars on both ends, and I can hardly tell a difference.

Go ahead and take your track bars off and drive down the road and if you dont like it, put them back on.

your wont really asee any difefrence in the rear, unless your packing alot of weight going somewhere...
you can take the front completely off & leave the sway bar, for some what of a stabilier ride, but if you really dont care about ride quality take the sway bar off to & it will be smoother
only draw back, watch out for evasive moves on the road, or fairly fast corners you yank on the wheel, the jeep will be very slow to repsond back to you on correcting whatever sitaution

mine did this, but it was my fault... i drove it like i normally had before & the female almost side swipped me.. i had to yank the wheel fairly quick to the left< missing a concrete guardrail by a few inches > & when i finally started going back it went in another lane
tracbars are POS's Yj's dont need them... Cj's never came with them! just Jeeps Idea of adding more crap, & dont waist your money on the JKS Sliding trac bar

take them both off leaving your sway bar, if you dont like it, put them back on... it never hurts to try things out
about the only time you'll really see a diference, is with alot of extra weight, freinds riding in the back, camping for the weekend.. that kinda stuff

Agreed gator.

I took both my trac bars off about 2 months ago and i didnt notice any difference in the stability. It seemed better on the road and off. I leave the sway bar on but just use the disconnects offroad so it can flex and it is a much smoother ride. dont bother leaving the trac bars on, just the sway bar.

I was doing a new cat-back exhaust work on my wrangler, had a difficult time on getting that tail pipe unit in.
I needed to take the trac-bar out to make my job easier.

When I got it in (tail pipe) I took a break and went on this forum to read about trac-bar.
After reading about trac-bar I dicided not to replace it and keep it off to do my own test.

I have found no differents in handleing. This is with the rear trac-bar removed only.

take the track bars off... get swaybar discos.
i noticed no diffreence when removing the back, and little difference w/o the front. without the sway bar, it's too loose for my liking on the street...

Yes I have, and I did not like the movement from the front it was a lot tighter and responded better with the track bar connected than without. I made a QD for the track bar because it will help the flex of any rig when they are disconnected but if you do not have the front connected the handling will suffer on the street. I like to have more control at higher speeds. I do drive my 4.0L at 65-75 on the highway. My.02

UPnOVER,

What kind of springs do you have?

I've been told if you remove sway bars and track bars with your stock springs then the body roll is horrible.

there is a thing with the springs. had had my track bars off with my stock springs and street driving was horrible. Then I put my new Rancho lift on and the stiffer springs reduced the body roll and what not. I still ride with my rear track bar off and my front track bar on with disconnects on the sway bars. It flexes good enough for me. Check it out at www.geocities.com/ddoffroad. Mines the red yj. Not the islander.

I have a rough country 3" lift that gave me 4" of lift. I did try the no track bar way and when I put the front back on the jeep the handling just was better than without. If you like it without? Good for you but my safety is first with me. You will have handling trouble in rain, snow, and ice or on a curvy road at higher speeds more than a jeep with one or both bars connected. That' a fact............... Do as you like but I would keep the front on or use the QD. My .02
