Towing a boat

Hi,

I was wondering what peoples experiences have been towing boats? How big have they been, how much weight were you towing? I have a small baot (98' Maxum 1700XR) that I tow with my 92' YJ and want to get a bigger boat but dont know if my YJ will handle it.

Thanks in advance

It would all depend on the type of hitch set up you have, and how far you were planning on driving it. The tongue weight is about 10% of the weight of the boat, and most jeeps can't handle too much weight on the rear end.

I have towed my 18 foot boat with my jeep. It is a scary ride but it can do it. I also saw a lady out at the lake that was towing a 24 foot boat with a TJ. That skeered the heel out of me.

havasu is right. back in the day I had a 2 seater and a 3 seater jet ski on a double trailer. I would drive it up to about an hour away. My flares still have the burnt/cutout marks from the tires rubbing the flares. Of course thats with a stock suspension and 31's, but the @$$ end of the jeep really sank with those on them.

You could just ship the boat for what it would extra cost you in fuel by you trying to pull it. And safer than you doing it. Now this is just my opinion.

For those who have not figured this out I'm old school but can handle the new too.
