Does anyone know the torque spec for the head bolts on a 89 wrangler with a 4 banger in it.

I recently did one of these. I hated it. I had to refer to the sequence multiple times.

You have to make alignment dowels from the old head bolts.

From front to back from drivers side:

8 4 1 5 9
rear of motor. Sequence
7 3 2 6 10

The dowels go in 7 and 10.

Install composite gasket without sealant.

Use loktite on bolt 8.

Install all head bolt (xcept 7&10) Once you have threaded the other bolts, hand thread 7 and 10. You have located the gasket on the cylinder head.

Tighten bolt 1 to 10 to 22 foot pounds using the above sequence (I wish I had a scanner!)

Using the same sequence, tighten to 45 foot pounds.

Tighten 1 through 7 to 110 foot pounds then tighten bolt 8 to 100 foot pounds. Lastly,

tighten bolts 9 and 10 to 110 foot pounds.

Please be sure to use NEW headbolts.
