Too much faith in my parking brake.

I had a horrible experience today. Oh it could have been worse. I parked my jeep at the grocery store (slight incline), set the brake and pulled it out of gear. (Like I always do) As I was walking in I heard a 'pop' behind. Immidiately I knew what it was. I turned and ran as fast as I could. I caught up to my jeep before it rolled into the street. The parking brake let loose. Everything is okay but I was quite worried there for awhile.

Clipse

PS: From now on, it stays in gear unless I'm changing gears.

Yep for '90 and up. Problem was exactly what just happened to you.

Go here: http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/ Put in your vin and you will see if it was done or not. They still HAVE TO DO IT BY LAW. If you still have it outstanding, call up your local jeep dealership and tell them you need it done. They will prolly have to order the part so it is pointless to just "show up" and expect them to do it then.

why would you take it out of gear? I trust my tranny more than the brake.

Can the mods make this recall a sticky? It sure is a serious saftey issue.

Mine almost went into Shasta Lake one night because it popped off!

I talk to everyone I come in contact with about the recall, but for some reason nobody knows about it.

Never ever ever trust just the parking brake...stick it in the the opposite gear of the incline and cut the wheels into the curb if on the street. I learned the hard way after my trucks popped and it rolled into the corner of my brick home.....the brick stopping it prior to it hitting and shearing off the gas meter. Bumper, grill and hood were fubar...

I will work something out for the YJ FAQ but I cannot make this a sticky. There are too many already.

The only time I ever use my e-brake is if I need to park and leave my Jeep running, other than that, I always leave it in first gear, or reverse

I didn't know about that website. I put in my info. & found out the e-brake recall and the fuel tank sending unit gasket recall hasn't ever been done on my jeep. Thanks for the info...

I have a '89, of course that isn't in the recall. My parking brake has popped a couple of times over the past 10 years. I never trust it. If I have to leave it running with the brake on, I always chock the wheels.

Heck why don't ya just put it in park when you stop. I've never had a problem with mine rolling away, parking brake on or not.

Mine won't hardly come out of park anymore, so I just leave it in gear instead.
