tj flairs on my yj

Ok, I need a little wider flare since I installed my new 31/10.50/15s. I dont really want to spend almost $400 for aftermarket flares. I like the look of TJ flares over the stock YJ flares, and they are usually around $100 on ebay. I looked and done some searching and found alot, but nothing that answered my questions.
I know these wont match the pre existing holes, but are they a simple install? Do I have to cut or trim my body? My tires only rub a bit at full turn. I dont want to trim the body. will it look funny if I dont? Is there anything else that I have to do other than drill new mounting holes? I am also open to other alternatives or suggestions, but I do like the TJ flare look, however Im not sure that they will even be wide enough.
I am not sure what my rim offset is, but they stick out quite a bit more than stock rims.

Thanks to whoever gives me advice and doesnt lecture my lack of searching.

For 31 x 10.5s....

You might want to look into a rim with the proper back spacing. You can probably find a used set for the same price as those flares and you don;t have to do the cutting, grinding and drilling needed to install TJ flares.

As I was not trying to be a jerk with my post. I was just giving you another option that would require no work being done to the body. There was no need to get all bent about it.

Sorry maybe I should answer your question better.
Yes, there is cutting involved in installing the flares. Yeah, you could install the flares without cutting but IMHO it would look funny. Yes... you will have to drill new holes. You will also have to figure something out with your turn signals that were on your fenders. Also if you have the factory side steps on your Jeep as I did on mine then the front flare will no longer link to it.

I'm in the process of doing this to my YJ now. I've done the rear but am waiting on turn signals to be shipped before I begin the front. I'll try to answer your questions...

Not simple but not hard to install. Yes, you have to trim the body unless you want to hack up the TJ flares to make them fit which I don't recommend.

Yes, the TJ flares are a little longer and it may look strange.

See questions above. I think it is worth the effort. They look awesome and the extra room that results from the trimming will help any tire rub.

This was the best site I found regarding the installation process:

http://www.bc4x4.com/pv/yj/tjflares/

By the way, I found 2003 Rubicon flares and they are a little wider and taller then the standard TJ flares. If you can find some from a Rubicon, you will be pleased.

Not trying to hijack, but why do people get new flares when they get bigger tires? Is it illegal to have that wide of tires and not that wide of flares?

Yeah, a lot of states require a certain amount of coverage. Like here in Pa, you can have no more than I think 3" of tread uncovered. Or something like that.

Im not sure what it is here in IOWA, I moved here from Wisconsin last year. What I do know is that in the town I was from in Wisconsin, this was a major reason for the barney fife cops to five you a ticket. Absolutely every part of your tire must be covered.
This is not an exaggeration. My buddy was given a ticket for all 4 tires at $189/tire. He took it to court and the judge threw out 3 of them but still had to pay for 1 of them.
SMALL TOWN AND BIG SHOT COPS IS WHAT IT AMOUNTS TO.
Anyway even the judge said that it was ridiculus. You cant give him a ticket for every tire he said. but it still cost him $189.

I did this a few weeks ago.. Like the look, but honestly it was a huge PIA.

Getting the old flares off was a pain, clamping, cutting, drilling etc was a pain.. Getting it all lined up was a pain..

Overall a full days job, like I said I like the way it turned out, but it was a bit of a tougher job than most posts would have you think.

Whoops.... i dont even have rear fender flares. But i still haven't been pulled over yet, so i guess tx doesn't have any laws about needing fenders.

For $149 (I think) you can get wider YJ flares from Quadratec. Front is just a wide YJ flare (use stock side marker) and rear is TJ style.
