Ranger arm showed up looks like its going to work. I will have to remove my swaybar at full lock it will interfere with the draglink nut.
I still have to file the keyways but I test fit it and it gives just enough clearance. We shall see when the driver tire is at full stuff. Goferit inserts should be here Thursday.
From left to right, stock YJ , '91 2 wheel drive manual ranger (Got at local yard), '83 2 wheel drive power steering ranger.

have to be careful as you can reduce steering radius with a short pitman.

the splined section of pitman arms are tapered as well. flipping it wont work.

The hole on the manual ranger arm is smaller than the power steering one. I got a power steering one and its only about a half inch shoter than stock YJ one I think I will be fine. I hope.

Unfortunately I already have the knuckle so I'll just have to make due. For some reason I thought the splined section of the pitman arm wasn't tapered because the splines on the sector shaft is tapered. Either way I could just drill the arm through and put a heim joint on top and gain some clearance. Will see how it turns out and if I even need to go that route.

the distance from the hole to the top ball joint is almost 9". my dana 60 arm is even shorter. some people have drilled their own hole in the arm of the knuckle and hacked off some of the length. for my funky front axle build i made my own pitman arm. ill be making another shortly and it will be my third. not hard to do.

Just need to order one more goferit insert I didn't think about the pitman arm its reamed bigger than the YJ tre. I tried to make the ranger tre work but the threads are bigger and won't fit the draglink. Unless I can think of something else?????

Just placed an order for one more Goferit insert. Hope it gets here as soon as the last one did. Now to focus on getting bumpstops in and building a real cage

I don't think that insert is coming out of the pitman arm.
forumrunner_20120507_174632.jpg Got it all back together and took it for a spin around the block. Works good can't wait to more road time in. Got to watch the kids so wife can have a break. More testing tomorrow!!

Tested it real good today towed my dirt bike with it for 80 miles and it did great. Steering is tight no binding. I also flexed it out real good out at my parents ranch and it
Has about 1" of clearance at full stuff with pitman arm drag link I'm real happy.

That's great! I have my knuckle painted and will hopefully get to installing it next week depending on the weather.

skyj,

Looks like I may be going the route you went unless I find a flat arm from an Astro van or something.

If you go with the ranger arm make sure its out of a 80's 2 wheel drive "power steering". I would go with the ranger arm over an astro, an astro will put your draglink behind your tie rod. I didn't lose any turning radius I can still go lock to lock. I guess with the tera knuckle you wouldnt have any interference with the two unlike my stock setup with the draglink attaching to the tie rod.
If you go with a flat arm will you have interference with the frame? The ranger arm has at least a half inch drop.
