Throttle Body to Carburetor Conversion

Has anyone ever removed the throttle body of a 4.0L YJ and replaced it with a Weber Carb? What spacer did you use? Will the intake manifold from a 4.2L CJ fit?

Here is one option I found. Can't tell if it will fit.

Someone please help before I set my Jeep on fire!

This is why we cant have nice things...

On a serious note- I cant seem to think of a situation where this would be something anyone would want to do. Can you explain a little more about the situation and what your trying to accomplish or fix so we can help out?

There is no reason you couldn't install a 4.2 intake and slap a carb on it.
I took a 99+ intake and with some modiications and a home brew adaptor I installed a MC2150.
Check out pics in my gallery for the conversion.
To some it seems like a backwards step but for me I need the simplicity it gives me. I do a lot of solo wheeling in the desert and the last thing I need is some sensor or wire failing leaving me with a long walk in the sun.

^ that's were I differ call me new school but we used to do 2hrs+ of rally runs and I felt very comfortable with a well tuned MPFI system.

Your 4.2 or 258 intake will fit fine on the 4.0 head. But, you have to use the 4.o exhaust manifold with the 4.o head.

This is something I would likely do, I much prefer carbs over electronic wiz-bang squirt guns.

As others said, I can't think of one good reason to do this.

I love a good carb'd v8 as do many for their ease of tuning, but the FI 4.0 shouldn't need any tuning. Its a pretty simple system that works very well.

Thanks for all the tips. Looks like I will be searching for a 4.2L intake manifold. For those of you forward thinkers, here is my reasoning:

My original wiring and ECM is fried. I bought the E-Z wiring harness, but, due to my superior electrical knowledge (insert sarcasm) I was unable to make the basic 12 circuit harness work with the computer. I decided instead to put an old style distributor and carburetor on to make her go. Also, I like the simplicity.

I applaud the originality, I would never think to do that

old4x and 4.7stroker: Any suggestions on a replacement fuel pump? I'm hearing that I will need to tone it down to about 3-4 psi.
