there's something growing on my suspension...
I just bought this YJ and I've been wondering what exactly is the yellow thing attached the the rear leaf springs. It's on both sides. I've heard two things so far. 1) That they're towing brackets so the suspension doesn't get damaged by big loads (even though the yellow things are not connected to the tow hitch or the like.) and 2) that its to protect the rear axle and suspension for things on the ground when you hit the trails (even though the yellow things give me like... 4" of ground clearance).. So if anyone has an answer out there and can help me by just telling me what these things are, i'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

It looks like your Jeep has AIDS.

I'm sorry you had to learn this way.

Those are traction bars. Take away wheel hop. As to why they are on a Jeep?? Looks like a teen was a owner at one time.

Those look like traction bars (typically on hotrods of the 1980's to prevent spring wrap and wheel hop). Not sure why they would be on a Jeep. My recommendation... take em off.

Well... in the last two minutes, we all had the same thought! :)

Yes those are traction bars..... used to stop wheel hop in hotrod and old V8 cars and some trucks.
nowi can say i have seen everything on a jeep... LoL

Now that is funny shizzle slapper bars on a 4x4. Do me a favor and put a set on the front also and take some pics. Make up some stoooopid reason they are on the Jeep like they improve off road performance.

The PO must have been a moron.

thanks everyone for all the help!

Gonna play devils advocate here. That spring looks well worn. Maybe they put them on to prevent the spring from inverting lol.

In any case, if you are going to take them off, I would do a suspension kit because it looks as if they are gonna sag without those bars.

Just when you thought you had seen everything... maybe now I can say so??

The time now is 04:28 AM.
