is there a way to make my YJ tailgate like a CJ tailgate?

I want a flip down tailgate like the CJ but I can't find one in any local junkyards and quadratec wants over a 100 for a new one that doesn't even have Jeep stamped in it. So can I do some fabbing to make one? Has anyone on here made a write up and if so can I pointed in the right direction because I couldn't find it. Also is there a square driving/fog light that'll fit in our headlights cuz I've seen it done on trail only CJs and early Broncos
-Thanks in advance, Mike

Check the JP magazine archives. They did this a few years back but I don't remember the details.

It's pretty easy to re-engineer it with bottom hinges.

My guess, without looking at it, is that it wouldn't work too well. With some modification to the hinges it might.

Yeah the whole reason I want a swingdown is so I have a place to sit to eat lunch when I'm wheeling and I want to make a tire carrier that bolts to the body/framelike the OR Fab tire carrier that won't raddle as much

Yup, I'm going to get that Swag kit someday as well.

I wish they would have kept the tailgates instead of going to the swing out deal we all have now
