TF 999 isn't shifting correctly
So my 95's tranny seems to be acting up. It shifts fine at low to moderate acceleration, but lately it doesn't seem to dislike 2nd to 3rd upshifts and downshifts. The engine seems to rev to about 4000 before finally deciding to shift. I checked the fluid level and color, both look good, no signs of contamination. I had it flushed back in april. It ran fine, albeit shifting a bit firm up until recently. Any ideas?
Do you know what a modulator valve is or does. If your trans has one worth a try. Check it on google.
That trans does not have a vacuum modulator but there is a linkage between the throttle and the trans. Check that it is working properly.
Adjust your TV cable and forward band adjustment. I just had the same issue with my 95 and upon many suggestions doing both of those took care of the issue. The forward band is easy to do as it is accessed from outside the trans so no worries about dropping the pan. The TV cable takes 30 seconds once you open the hood.
TV Cable is the one with the red button on it that links to your throttle body. Push in the red button, open the tb wide open and snap it shut. The plastic sleeve on the cable should have moved and should now be in the correct location.
Band Adjustment from the FSM:
FRONT BAND ADJUSTMENT
The front (kickdown) band adjusting screw is
located on the left side of the transmission case
above the manual valve and throttle valve levers.
(1) Raise vehicle.
(2) Loosen band adjusting screw locknut (Fig. 179).
Then back locknut off 3-5 turns. Be sure adjusting
screw turns freely in case. Apply lubricant to screw
threads if necessary.
(3) Tighten band adjusting screw to 8 N·m (72 in.
lbs.) torque with Inch Pound Torque Wrench
C-3380-A, a 3-in. extension and 5/16 socket.
(4) Back off front band adjusting screw 2-1/2 turns
for the 30RH and 2-1/4 turns for the 32RH.
(5) Hold adjuster screw in position and tighten
locknut to 41 N·m (30 ft. lbs.) torque.
(6) Lower vehicle.
In working with the TV cable button, it doesn't appear to want to move or stay depressed. Do you hold it down while manipulating the tb?
Yes, hold it down
