TF-904 Adjustment

I have a '94 Wrangler with the 2.5 and the automatic ( I beleive it is the TF-904) and I can't get the thing adjusted properly. First it does not click it just slides so I can't go by the 1 click 2 click method. So can anyone tell me how to do this the right way. I am either shifting at 3000 RPM or it is hunting for a gear usually 2-3-2-3-2-3-2-3. HELP Please
