Temperature Sending Unit

Anybody know the part number for the temperature sending unit that feeds the gauge on the dash? It is located on the back corner on the driver side and is a single flat spade connector. The only thing I can find is the sending unit on the thermostat that feeds the computer, but does nothing for the gauge.

This is for a 94 YJ w/ 4.0L.

When i went to kragen, every part they gave me was wrong. They were all to big, one was close but it was a tad to big and the connector on the top was diffrent. I gave up and i just run around with no temp gauge. just a heads up

Hit the dealer...you normally ain't gonna find very knowledgeable folks at the big auto parts stores...all they know is computers...no offense to anybody out there who might work there and have good knowledge about automobiles, but the vast majority of people that I encounter in those stores don't know squat about the machinery and how it works!!! You may be pleasantly surprised at the cost, but in any case, you'll probably get the right part, they have exploded drawings of the stuff you're lookin' for...

Well the bottom one in the link is the one that's on my 4.2 (there's not one on the T-Stat on those though).

I would go with goat and call the dealer if you're having that much trouble with the local stores.

The part number you are looking for is 56027012.
This is for the sensor in the head by the firewall that drives your temp gauge.

I have also fought this problem for at least 2 years. Most of the people in the parts stores cannot understand the concept of the second sending unit for the guage. I finally gave up. My radiator is new, I keep the system flushed/full, and hope for the best. I have wondered if there would be a warning light on the dash that would come on during overheating, though, since that is managed more by the computer. Anyone know this?

Don't believe there's a light on the dash...you don't normally find a light when there's a gauge, but that's not always the case... Wouldn't be too hard to wire one in though...if there's another access into the water jacket that's plugged now, you get yourself a sending unit from a vehicle that uses a warning light instead of a gauge, and wire that to an aftermarket light...but, I wouldn't do it... if you don't trust the factory gauge, go to a mechanical Stewart Warner or Auto Meter gauge, into the stock location on the block...ugly, but probably more accurate than the factory gauge...I personally trust the factory gauge, seems to be a quality unit...

These are the ones that go into the thermostat housing.

TSU169 note the location of the tab on the plastic part of the sensor

and the first link I posted controls the gauge.

The top one in the second link sure looks like the one on my rig that controls the gauge located on the back of the engine near the head. 94 4.0 one wire sensor, its a plastic clip and not the 4.2 style stud that sticks up.

I'll probably stop in advanceauto tomorrow. I'll compare it with mine.
