Temperature of the Chevy 350ci engine

Looking for some guidance here. I know that I have some electrical issues in my Jeep .. but it seems like its getting a little over hot under that hood of mine.

I am using the stock Chevy temperature sender on the 350 block and have it wired to my stock Jeep display. Within a couple of minutes the temp reads 70 degrees, within 10 minutes its hovering around 100 degrees and after 1/2hr its bouncing off the red-zone 125 degrees.

I have a 160 degree thermostat (just swapped in this morning) and a brand-new heavy duty fan-clutch (for GM motors designed for towing or motor-homes) which haven't made any difference to the guage.

Now for the fun part .. when the temp is sitting around 120 mark and I turn on my head-lights, the guage automatically hits the 125 mark .. and when I turn the lights off .. it drops back to 120.

Can anyone point me in the right direction .. or should I tackle my electrical issues first? Also, what should the stock Jeep temp guage read normally when a 350 is plopped into the engine bay?

Thanks!

If the lights are effecting the temp guage instantly.. then you have some sort of electrical problem. At least that's what i think.

the gauge is your problem go and get a aftermarket gauge.your motor should run around 185-200 depending on the climate you live in.
