This is looking good man. Someone did the herc liner on mine before I bought it, but it's peeling in the back. Does anyone know if you can just sand off the loose parts and go right over the old layer without problems?

Herc says it sticks to itself and is "repairable".

Follow herc instructions. Their web site has them all on it. Google Herc and look for the web result. Good info on their site.

Sounds like lack of prep.

I have a tan set of these in my YJ and I LOVE them.

Excellent build, It tempts me to do this to my YJ as well, but I'm already working on the CJ like this......uhg, if only time and money weren't a hinderance!

well if i had money i probably would be to lazy to do it myself and might pay someone to do it. So lets say lots of time and just enough money. Actually if i had money Jeep probably wouldnt be my first vehicle. (most likely) for my first car i was deciding between 65 mustang and Jeep i chose Jeep and love it. I dont know if speed is better(mustang) or slow and do what ever you want, go where ever you want, park in strange places (not worried about little curbs), not wurying about scratching paint. I guess Jeep is slightly less stressful.

Stressful!? Jeep!

Still wont fire, but I got a few cylinders to catch tonight, and black smoke shot from the exhaust. A few times she almost went for sure.

My issue seems to be timing. I have followed Chiltons, Haynes, and FSM. I get so damn close.

Today I ignored the screwdriver on the cylinder and dowels. I pulled plug one, felt for compression, and aligned HB mark to 0. Not the best, but closest to date. I installed dist, with "trailing" edge of rotor blade on the 1 post mark. A puff here and there.

Opened cap and moved rotor back one blade length so it was leading edge to the current position (without adjusting piston. Rumbled. A few cyls at a time. Pulled cap, moved blade back ONE blade length. ((total of 2!) Rumbled a few times and almost caught.

This was the closest night of several timing attempts. I think if I get TDC 100% correct and the blade close, she will go. My issue is truly getting TDC and blade to "trailing" 1.

Hey...do I mark the CENTER of post #1 on the cap for the scribe mark, or do I scribe directly to the LEFT of the post. I see both schools of thought. This may be my issue. Ideas?

Yeah definitely a lack of something. It looks like they only had a half of a can to work with and didn't do it properly. I'll be picking some up and fixing it sometime soon. Thanks for the info.

They came in the ProComp brake line kit. Looks easy enough to bend and drill to get something similar.

If they had half a can to work with, they either only bought the 1 qt can to be as cheap as they could get, or they had a gallon and did their pickup and had some left over that they didn't want to waste...either way...sounds like a rush job with a serious lack of prep! (no TSP, scour, Acetone...)
