Today I woke and went immediately to Tractor Supply and got some bolts I needed, and then came home and loaded boxes of goodies into the jeep bed.

Hurculiner cans, Argon&CO2, 100 lbs of dogfood, Bestop box, steps, winch, tools, soundbar, Hi-Lift, wife on the bumper, the works!

The goal was to get the tire weight correct as much as possible and to measure the drivelines.

I called Tom Wood Custom Driveshafts, and surprise surprise, he offers a 10 % military discount. Amazingly, he asked ME if I would like the discount, I didn't have to ask for it. I had to prove I was military with my dot mil email address, and the rest was easy as pie. I have to say, dealing with Tom on the phone is a pleasure.

My shafts are being mailed tomorrow. WOW easy.

Good price too.

Here is the loaded down YJ, sans wife.

To do the shaft, I had to add the tires which aided alot in getting the axle centered. Made it a breeze. Then I was able to point the pinion sort of at the Atlas close enough for measurement of the drive shaft.

Sore, tired, and eager for this to end!

Today I did some spot welding in the tub, sanded, cleaned, chipped, scrubed, washed..and lost my soul to herculiner prep.

To make myself feel accomplished, I changed the brake pads on my wife's Envoy and changed her oil. It atleast took those tasks of my to do list.

Guys & the One Gal out there reading that I know of (MSPROOCH?),

I am delighted and humbled. Thanks! I have surfed this board a few times over and was also shocked to see my build referenced to someone else who was trying to figure something out. Glad that someone else is getting something out of this too.

----------

Herculiner update! - I have decided to paint over the floor where it mounts to the floor. I have batted it about both ways and did even MORE reading today. The weather here in VA is a little rainy, so I have decided to not apply the herc today, and glad I didn't. I found more stuff to put it on, such as my nerf bars etc.

The nerf bar is a fun story in itself. They were originally Garage Pro from JC Whitney. They attched under the frame at the bd mount locations. I had to remove bolt from under driver/pass feet and just behind the seats to the body when I had them on. I then had to hold them in place and use the BL bushings/bolts to suck them up to the frame mounts.

The problem is this...I have a Daystar 1" BL and what used to come through the frame hole was only a 1/2 bolt, now it is a bushing 1.5" wide. That additional inch diameter hole is not allowing the nerf bar to be installed. The solution? I will take pics for the next few posts to explain.

Quie a saga.

As I told you the step bar is a saga in itself.

It was originally mounted to the body mount frame locations with the stock bottom bushing and the 1/2 " bolt that went up to the body. That all changes with the body lift by Daystar.

Here is a pic of the bars and their current mounts after I had a friend badly burn the 1-1/2" holes to fit the body lift mounts. I told him to drill them. Later I noticed the bottom Daystar bushing does not fit in the stck nerf bar mount. I found it unacceptable to cut the Daystar piece when metal is more available. In this pic is the new mount as fabricated and laser cut by a machine shop my friend works at.

Here we show the bushing not fitting the stock mount. That is why we needed wider metal.

Then while prepping the tub I figured I was almost ready to herculine, when all of a sudden it was "one step forward two steps back" as I found a weak spot when unbolting the rear tailgate internal top hinge mount. UGGH.

OK with me, as I am not ready to paint yet. I ordered Herc UV protectant today which I need on the ground before I apply herc.

FYI

If you do the 8.8 rear, you need to bolt a flange adapter as seen in my recent driveline post to your 8.8's circular pinion flange. That bolt is Ford part # N800594-S100. It is a 12mm x 1.75 mm thread bolt, 12 point flange head, about 25 or so mm long from what I gather. I tried to find them on the internet and they are about $3-$4 apiece plus shipping from various sites. I also tried to find them at local Ford dealers parts desks. They have GREAT websites to find local parts, but they are to lazy to call back within four days of an online part request or return phone calls. I then found the part at Advance Auto on their Dorman parts rack. 12mm 1.75 thread 30 mm long works best. $1 each. The trick to finding this bolt is HD, Lowes, Napa, Ace, Tractor Supply.....all ALL carry the size bolt in Metric grade 8.8 or below. You need 10.9 grade, only found at Advance locally (you have to ask for it...they keep them in the back like gold) or at Fastenal which was not open for me to raid today. Get some thread locker for usage on the bolt during install. Getting ready for the drive shafts!

You need four bolts, I forgot to mention.

Good day. Got the wife, niece, daughter and son involved today.

Took front seat mounts and drilled out one welded screw that broke during removal. Cleaned both seat mounts, sanded, and pressure washed. Disassembled grill blinkers, harness, latch and hood rod. Pressure washed assembly. Sanded most so far.

Biggest job today between Talladega laps and enjoying the 48 hitting the wall was welding break in rear of tub as seen above.

88 didn't win, but seeing 24 post race interview about his buddy Johnson was hilarious.

Today I went after the grill again. It got TSP, pressure washed, and spot sanded this weekend. Today it got an acetone happy ending massage and a little spot welding and painting.

I painted it face up first all around the edges but the face will get done when the body gets painted. Then the sides were reversed after some drying and I did the back up nice after placing some painters tape over the ground attachment areas.

Did some prep work for putting interior back together post herc. The seat mounts were primed today. I haven't decided if they will end up black or red. The hood post was sanded, primed and painted today.

Completed cleaning the lenses inside and out as best as I could for the flashers. Also redid the wire harness, and cleaned it up as best as I could then restrung it into the grill. Then we cleaned the air intake also.

Then I got my ubolt kit for ujoints as sold at Napa. Pic and part number included.

Finally, I decided to figure out where to drill the frame that I repaired on one of the previous pages if you had been following. FSM's really help measure where to put it and then the spot gets marked and ready to drill!!!!!

Keep up the good work...Oh by the way I'm a dude. Lol its M.Sprooch not ms.prooch(its confusing not the first time its happened). It looks like your shackles are normal when you had all that crap in the jeep for the drive shaft measurements.

Just found out that my 95 is spraying tranny fluid so I have to fix that before I can tackle an 8.8.

LOL Funny / Sorry on the earlier goof.

Second, I noticed the shackles. I have been watching them rather closely everytime I add something and finally felt OK when I loaded it up.

Screw the Tranny. Get a bigger better one! But seriously, that sucks.

Thinking 8.8? I'm in love with mine. After the Tom Wood shaft gets here I am going to put the front one in and make sure the rear fits. I have to get the herc done maybe right after the Richmond race. Then the stuff goes in the interior like gangbusters and I can get that pinion adjusted and welded.

Long day.

Today was alot of paint and prep for later assembly.

Hole cut and painted for grill mount.

Radiator flushed several times. PO had broken two bolts off in it. One broke the power steering pump reservoir when it happened. I drilled the broken ones out and retapped all nuts to 1/4-20 to make it easy and fit new bolts to hold shroud and PS pump on.

New PS reservoir came today from Moparonlineparts.com. Part # 5xxxxxxx is the reservoir, the other is the cap for it.

Painted the seat risers today.

Grill went on fine!!!!!!!!!!
