ok well i had a 93 blue yj that was totaled in october. i still have it, its just totaled. i just bought a red 92, but the tailgate is rotting our at the hinge mount. i wanted to swap the tailgate from the blue one to the red one. sounded simple enough. well the screws stripped on both yjs on both the hinge mounting to the tub, and the arm mounts to the gate itself. even after much pb blaster, and heating, nothing wanted to come loose. enought screws are stipped that i can swap the doors by the hinges or the arms. it seems that the arms are riveted into the hinges. how can i remove the rivets and then swap the gates with the arms still attached? please help me cuz i ve now atrted the project and need to finish to get my 92 back on the road without worrying my tail gate will come loose. thanx
those "rivets" can be removed. i had one that could slide out if needed. you simply have to file/dremel the flared head down and drive it out. drive it back in from the top or use a bolt and it will be fine.
when u say grind away the "riveted" head, do u mean at the top of the hinge and bang it down and out or the bottom of the hinge and bang it up and out.
mine had pins that looked like they were punched on one end to flare it out. one wasnt flared that much and i was able to pull it out by hand. the other one i just dremeled some of the flared material off.
