Tail Cones same for 207 & 231 TC??

Were putting in a 95 AX15 along with the NP231 into a 87 (removing the 207 & BA-10) only problem is the electric sender (95) versus mech (87) for the speedo drive. Whats the best way to deal with this? Can't seem to find an adpt from electric sender to convert it to the mechanical drive, (Summit??) or do we swap out the rear tail sections?? I know the 87 has kind of an odd ball speedo drive at least in the size, when I replaced the cable one time I ended up having to go to the stealership to get the correct one. Napa's would not fit on the speedometer as I remember. Please Help!

If all you need is the mechanical drive, wont the speedo cable connect right up into the transfer case? Just remove the current speed sensor and connect up the your mechanical cable right to the transfer case.
or, if you need both, then try this part, the 91 sender for the YJ. It has both the electrical and the mechanical connection. Your mechanical cable would connnect up, and you still have the electrical speed sensor.

Hey thanks Bernie for the reply. No the hole sizes are different in the housings between the old mech 87 & the newer 95 electric sender. Maybe this sender from Autozone or whoever maybe the ticket (If my old cable) will mate up to it?. Also like the idea of being able to use the electric if I ever update my speedo to an electric one, thanks

sounds like a good time to look at SYE kits

or you could look into getting the part from an earlier mechanical speedo equipped 231

still would need the adapter to put in the new housing for the sye. when you get the adapter for the 91 (mechanical/electriccombination) I believe you will have to get a different speedometer cable for a 90 or 91

The stock 231 and the SYE kit for the 231 I believe take the same set up. I found a company on the Internet that sells the housing and and gears (different ones for different ratios and tires). They said the Dodge and Chrysler used the 231 with a mechanical speedometer so I am waiting to see what shows up.

ok I re-read the OP. If you have the adapter and sender for the later electronic style speedometer the sensor can be removed (it just unthreads) and you can get a speedometer cable for a yj up to 91 to make it work.
