T-Case Pops Loudly
So I just put my Posi-Lok on saturday and things were going great. The jeep was gettin through anywhere I put it. I was messing around earlier and put it in 4Lo and took off and heard a loud pop. Then it felt like my front axle disengaged again. I got underneath and checked all my lines for the posi-lok, and everything seemed to be fine with that. Anyone have any idea what this actually is, because its really p*****g me off. Any help would be appreciated.

Stretched/worn tcase chain? Broken tcase chain? Broken axleshaft? Tcase not fully engaged? |

The Posi-Lok seems to be adjusted perfectly. I was looking into it a little bit online last night and found that the chain will stretch and cause it to mess up sometimes. Whats weird tho is that I drove it in 4Lo for about 30 mins. today and everything seemed to be fine. Last night when I did it it took about 10 mins and it went out. I think I might : A) Rebuild the T-Case or B) Just buy another NP231.

Hey i got the same problem with my XJ, the posi lok will disengage by popping. I noticed that when it's engaged in heavy snow it's fine but on lite snow roads like today it's bad... My front end or the T-case has a really weird whining sound and it gets gradually louder at higher speedsthen pop(more like bang), nothing over 30-35 mph will keep this front axle engaged. I need to figure this out soon it's driving me nutz

hmmm..... yeah i've been meaning to try that first. After fartin around in this wonderful snow storm here in MA, The 4wd just gets worse everytime. now i pretty much will leave it in 2wd unless i need to takeoff from a stop then i throw it in 4wd. this sucks. I spend 200 bucks on a system ( bought the cast iron fork too) and it's craps out on me after one year this week
Oh another thing does the knob button on your posilok rotate left and right and gets tighter or looser??? mine does if you turn the black ring or base under the red button.this is when engaged or not engaged.....

posi lok knob
I just bought a YJ that has a posi lok installed (and this is new to me) I never had a Jeep with one before.
As far as I know, you loosen it a little bit to the left, push the button in the middle, then pull it out. This turns on my 4wd light then I pull the t case lever into 4 hi. Then I was not sure if I had to twist the posi lok knob to again to lock it in 4wd. And if I am supposed to twist it... left or right? I was driving around last night and I had the same popping you were describing. I think I was doing something wrong with engaging the posi lok. Only happened twice but it still had me concerned.

this sound is most likely your transfer case chain. take care of it before the chain derails, jams, locks your drivetrain, and blows your tranny. as mine did. That's the worst case scenario but check it out. A t-case chain is around $90 from napa. -ian
