Swapping a 2.5L to a ?????

I am in the process of getting a new jeep with a bad 2.5L engine. It has an automatic transmission. I would like to know if I can put a 5.2L from a Cherokee in it but if there are transmission problems then I will probably go for a 4.0L. It is a 2002, not sure on exactly what style it is. Are there bellhousing problems? Is the transmission strong enough for a V8? Your comments would be very appreciated.

You will need to swap the engine and transmission most likely. I would look for a Cherokee with a 4.0 for the donor.

Best idea would be to find another 2.5 and drop it in. The swapping of engines to any other that what was put in by the factory is very costly and time consuming. Requires fabrication skills and electronic wiring skills and a source donor.
