Swap or update

Hello and TIA,

I have an 87 YJ 4.2 carter carb (rebuilt) automatic. Body is great, engine has only 119k on it. Wants are, better starting, more power, better fuel economy. Please rate the options.
1) swap out for a newer 4.0 with FI (have a 98 in mind that sounds OK) $$
2) Howell FI $$$
3) Head swap to a 4.0 with FI ???
4) Switch out to a new Weber carb. $

I'd skip the Weber (or any other carb for that matter). Howell will be the easiest of the EFI swaps that you have listed. I think you can modify the 4.0 EFI manifold to fit the 4.2 head so you don't have to swap heads if you want to go that route, that's what the Mopar EFI conversion kit uses. Me, I'd go Howell, but I'm biased since that's what I used.

If I had the money I would buy the 4.0, stroke/rebuild, that way I have a brand new fresh engine. Just my $.02
