Swap AX-15 for BA-10/5? problems?

Working on a friends 89 YJ with a I6 258 and NP231 xfer case, but the BA-10/5 is gone again! What does it take to swap in an AX-15 to replace the Pukego? Pros and cons?

Help a YJ in need!

Surely some hacker out there has replaced their Pukego BA10/5 for something better (wouldn't take much). Help a pal out who is severely depressed looking at his YJ laying lifeless in the side yard!

On the BA/10 there's 21 spline on the output shaft while on the AX15 there are 23. Also in order to use the AX15 you have to replace the input gear of your NP231 transfer case to a 23 spline. You can easily obtain these parts from Advance Adapters.

You can still use the old clutch disc, pressure plate and pilot bearing if they are in very good condition or if you elect but not the throw-out bearing and the slave cylinder assembly (these need to be from an AX15). Be sure to think safety when doing this job and don't forget to use a transmission tray/jack.

Good Luck and Regards
