Stupid stupid stupid Hi Lift question
Ok, so, I just bought my very first HiLift jack, and to test it out, lifted up the rig from the front bumper. Now I can't get the thing to lower the Jeep back down. I'll just say, I've never even seen one of these things used before, even though that is not a real defense.
So, the little lever is in the down position, but moving the handle up and down isn't doing anything. Is it somehow bound up? And should I just use another jack to take the load off and lower the vehicle?

push the handle as far down as it goes, and it should click, the as you let the handle come back up, it will lower the jeep one click of the high lift. DO NOT LET GO OF THE HANDLE. this is one reason they are dangerous. if you let go, the handle will shoot back up and hit you in the chin (talking from experience).
good luck.

And it isnt going to be a little sissy hit either. It will BADLY BRUISE wherever it hits. Its supporting the weight of the vehicle you know....Its helps to lube up the pins sometimes because they jam alot and it takes a little but to get them to pop out. Ive thought about getting a little bit stronger springs for it but i dont think the benefits are really worth it...

Nope, pushing it down doesn't cause it to click at all. The carriage move about an inch up on the rail and then stops. Return the handle upright doesn't seem to engage the steping mechanism at all. It doesn't look like there are any parts that would be candidates for clicking at this point. Everything seems to be settled at its bottom most point, if that makes sense. I don't see any of the spring op rods that would be moving.
Good news is that the steering seems to be a little tighter now. Man i feel like an idiot.

Well good. I'm not incompetent. Just stupid. The lube did the trick. Good ol PB Blaster.
Yeah, the first direction in the instructions? Properly lubricate all the parts.

HAHAHAHAhA, Yeah, I almost did that, but didn't want to destroy the concrete at this place the first week I move in. It already has red paint scraped all over it from me losing my temper with the jack!

yea i mean it's not safe but you can make do sometimes if need be.
my hi-lift gets jammed up sometimes (too lazy to lube it but i guess i will next time i need to use it) and i've gotten into the habit of just pushing the jeep sideways by hand if i have it jacked up on the front or back or driving the jeep if it's jacked up from the side.
as long as you think first about what direction to go you can minimize the risk of damaging your body
-Erik <--- also always does this in the grass.... concrete might damage the jack

Or just do like i did acidently and forget to put the parking break on and watch it roll backwards off the jack. Luckily the tires were only a few inches off the ground(still alot because i have 4" of lift!). ROFL it started moving back, and i was all pulling on it and it just quietly rolled off and stopped. I put the e-brake on and went in and sat down for the rest of the day.....

ooooooooouuuuuch, yep that beats mine. i was just a badly bruised chin, and pride. i'll tell you what though, you'll never see me w/o gloves, and my head out of the way. i usually use it standing at the side of the handle now, so if i slip, it doesn't touch me, and the gloves help to make sure i don't slip.
