Strecthing wheel base.
Just a quick question about strecthing my wheel base.
I noticed a lot of guys are moving the hangers to accomodate the length of the springs, but I was wondering if I could use my stock locations for some sort of springs? XJ preferably. Also, did you guys go with stock springs or did you guys order springs for lifts? As you can tell, I'm bored and want to cut something.

the only way you could get more wheelbase using yj springs would be using offset spring perches like those offered by M.O.R.E.
the only way to use xj springs to achieve a stretch is to relocate your spring perches, in the rear, and with the little bit of space you have to work with the shackle hangers on the rear crossmember/bumper work best from what i've seen. ruffstuffspecialties makes a "way-back shackle hanger" that sells for about $35 a set. just make sure before welding them up your mounting surface is plenty strong. i replaced that sheetmetal crossmember that the bumper mounts to with 2x4" 1/4" wall steel and then butted another piece up against it to move everything back a bit more and serve as a bumper....

You can cut the spring mounts off the frame and put YJ springs where ever you please.

Remember you'll need to move shock mounts, if you go too far there are gas tank clearance issues also, and of course the are drive shaft lenghtening.
Sounds like a plan. I did mine, and absolutly love it. Doug |

I used the waggy springs and gained 2" in the front and 2" in the rear and I dont have an issue with the stock fuel tank. stock waggy's are about 1.5" lift over stock YJ springs.
