Strange Things.....

Have an 88 YJ with the 6 cyl, manual transmission. Recently I put on a 4" rough country lift and 1 inch shackle lift. I now have a strange sound. It is a cross between grinding and rushing water noise. Starts in idle and continues in all gears forward. Sometimes when I hit a bump it will go away briefly and in reverse it is not existent. The sound gets louder with the rpms. I was thinking my throwout bearing, but even with my clutch engaged the sound is still there. Any ideas???? Thanks.

Dose the sound go away when you come to a stop, or is the sound present when ever the engine is running?
Did you install a T-case drop, or SYE along with the lift?

Does the noise change at all when pressing the clutch pedal in and out?

Check all your clearances under the tranny all the way back it sounds like something is rubbing...
Are you running antiwrap?? you said it doesnt do it in reverse. could be the rearend twisting allowing something to rub in forward.
X2 on SYE or t-case drop??

x3 on the transfer case drop/SYE. I just finished putting a 4" RC lift on too, but haven't had time to do the drop and no money for SYE yet. Haven't driven it, figured I would leave it in the garage till I could break the dang skid bolts loose somehow and get the drop done. PB Plasterin' the heck out of them right now!

I did the transfer drop kit. The sounds is there even at an idle. It gets louder with the RPM's. Again, in reverse there is no "strange" sound. The sound does not change when I turn left and right. Thanks in advance to your help and replies.

Discovered my "strange" sound tonight. Come to find out it was that my head cover was resting on my firewall. So all the sound of the engine was coming straight into my jeep. Took a board and a big ol' hammer and customized my firewall to accomodate the new angle of the motor after my transfer case drop.
