Strange Starting Problem

A few times recently when the Jeep sits for a day or two, it will almost start and then dies. More cranking does nothing. I then pour a little gas down the carb and it starts and most of the time will run fine after that. I thought it was water and gas line freezing but it has done it when it's above freezing too. The fuel pump and filter are less than a year old. My thoughts are that the floats are getting stuck closed or the carb has an internal jet problem. The fuel filter is the type with two exits and the fuel may be going back to the tank instead of to the jets. What do you think? I've checked other threads with this title and they are not similar problems.

It sounds like a carb issue for sure. Have you thought about a rebuild on the carb?

Actually I'm thinking abot the Motorcraft carb conversion the guy on Ebay sells. With a new auto choke it's about $300.00

Or your jets aren't seating and it's emptying your bowl. It wouldn't be the accelerator pump because it only does it after a few days. I am not familiar with jeep carbs but I have rebuilt a bunch of others and nothing is as hard to rebuild a a quadrajet so a simple rebuild kit should get you going.
