strange noise

I was standing outside of my jeep this morning with the engine running looking at someones engine. anyways... i started hearing this whining from under my hood.. like a moaning whine. I popped the hood and the noised seemed to be coming from either the fan clutch, power steering pump (eh?) or maybe a pully. It stopped when i turned the engine off, and when i started it back up.. it took about 15 seconds for it to happen again. Kinda cold to go play right now, plus i need to go to work soon, but does anyone have any ideas, or what i should check for? thx

Water pump maybe?

Kinda hard to diagnose without hearing it.

Grab your fanblades and pull side to side to see if there is play. If there is then look at where the play is to determine if the play is in the clutch or the water pump.

turn the wheels one way or another while the car is running, if the whine changes pitch its more than likely the powersteering pump

Check your belt and make sure its not starting to come apart, a loose string might make that noise. Good luck.
